On January 20, 2021, President Joe Biden, and Vice-President, Kamala Harris were inaugurated into the White House. This was a big win for the Democratic Party. Alongside that Kamala Harris made history. She became the first woman, and BIPOC woman to become Vice President, showing how far America as a whole has come.
Biden and Harris have various proposals that they are planning to achieve throughout their time in office, including those to help reform the Black community. They plan to create more jobs geared toward Black Men. They plan to implement these jobs within multiple communities. In addition to that they want to open the door for Black-owned businesses to grow. There has been an emergence of them, and with Biden and Harris’s plans for starting up loans for them, more can be running and implemented into many different parts of the country.
Biden pledged to tackle the issue of systemic racism against Black Americans. He addressed the unemployment gap by saying, “The Black and Latino unemployment gap remains too large.” With that being said, he sets to boost lending to entrepreneurs of color. With that, it will restore the infrastructures in BIPOC communities. The Biden administration includes improved access to credit that is trying to narrow the racial wealth gap. That will be helpful toward Black-owned businesses.
In the past 50 years, Black home ownership has hit all-time lows. Due to the Coronavirus it has been even lower. However, Biden and Harris have plans to remediate this. President, Biden, sets to invest $640 billion over 10 years so Americans will have affordable housing. Those houses will also be located near good schools and neighborhoods. Biden also plans to provide financial assistance to hardworking Americans, so they can get quality housing. Ending discrimination in the housing markets is another goal of theirs.
They have many more plans of action. They plan to make sure that African Americans have equal access to credit in capital so they can succeed. In order to increase this, Biden will double the funding for the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI). The New Markets Tax Credit will also be expanded. The New Markets Tax Credit makes billions of dollars to remediate impoverished communities. In Addition to that, Biden and Harris will increase funding for the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), which plays a critical role in minority-owned businesses. Biden is fighting for equal pay in support for African American workers, specifically African American women.
In conclusion, Biden and Harris have multiple proposals to help Black Americans flourish and to help them lead better lives.
